Which language should I study at college – Chinese, Spanish, or other?
I’ve been studying French for two years, but I’m tired of it and would like to switch to something new. I am going to medical school after I graduate, so I would like to choose a language that will be useful as a doctor, as well as fun to learn. I’m trying to decide between Chinese (useful and unusual, but an entirely different system of writing to learn) and Spanish (useful when I visit Spain – which I really want to do someday – but a little boring in the meantime).
Have you studied either of these languages? Any suggestions?
Thanks B. I should say that, although I’m pretty decent with languages – I learned the elvish languages from Lord of the Rings one summer when I was a little kid – I don’t want to take a class that will require a lot of focus. I’d rather save the stress for chemistry and biology…
i say spanish. it’ll be easier for you since you’ve studied french. (they’re kind of similar)
chinese would be useful too, but i think it ultimately depends on where you study/do your residency/etc. some areas have higher demographics in spanish speakers or chinese.
