How should I learn Chinese? How do I study the writing system?
Any study advice for learning the character system? I wonder how someone can learn these characters in an efficent way? Please give me advice, thank you!
(1) Most important is to first learn PinYin – this is the romanization of Chinese characters, it is important in learning pronunciation as well as for using dictionaries.
(2) Chinese characters are made up of radicals and finals, knowledge of stroke order and radicals is important in using a dictionary.
(3) If you are planning to write Chinese characters – get a book about stroke order.
Also – determine whether you want to learn traditional characters (used in Taiwan and Hong Kong) or simplified characters (used in mainland China).
